Hadrian's Wall
This year we had 5 walkers and 3 cyclists out searching to see what the Romans did for us. Apart from giving us sore feet and wherever cyclists get sore that is.

As usual the walkers started at a pub, although this one they didn't go in to. Must be age.

We had a few surprises along the way - more climbing than we expected, free beer from one landlady, and the the need to learn a new language by the end of the week,

The scenary was stunning even though there was a missing Sycamore tree.

All that walking on the wall was tiring so we had to have rest stops. The cyclist had their challenges too - how to load bikes on the car.

We thought we had lost Michael at one point.
We stopped off to visit the forts, stopping at every English Heritage site possible, having got our discounted senior membership passes. We also had our "arty" moments.
We had our usual share of jokes - how many ears did Captain Kirk have? 3 of course.
A Tautology competition: Velcro is such a rip off.
As we neared the end, we got confused between Timothy Taylor beer which equates to any real ale, or lasagne and macaroni cheese being the same.

The cyclists arrived at Wallsend first, the walkers bravely navigating their way through central Newcastle and dragon boat racing to arrive at Segedunum Fort- to find it had closed 15 minutes earlier.

Even the confusion of whether we were on the right metro platform (we tried it several times) didn't spoil our final authentic North East meal (Turkish).
